For your Eyes Only

Cowboys in India

A young director pitches an idea to a wanna be producer for a modern spaghetti western that’s filmed in India rather than Italy to save money on production costs.

Without a real script or any connections in India, he befriends an Indian guide who becomes his assistant director, casting director, and mentor for an ever-spiraling out of control adventure in filmmaking.

What starts out as a tribute to the cowboy genre transforms into an epic comic adventure.

Mystic Golf

The idea of Mystic Golf is to re-discover the purity and almost miraculous nature of golf that I first experienced when I first learned how to play on the beaches of Santa Cruz decades ago.

I combine the technical aspects I learned as a custom club builder for 10 years.

Mystic Golf is paired with a website I started to develop, however, my back went out to the extent that I couldn’t play and then COVID hit. The comedy of it is tangible when I come up with a new angle that often radically destroys my golf game.

It is ultimately about re-discovering that switch that turns on the mystical game of golf. Let’s hope I discover it soon!

The Claude Chronicles

Claude was a 140 lb. Doberman/Husky mutt. He was given to me along with a free can of dog food when I was a wilderness river guide working in the US and Canada.

Claude and my lives were exceptional. We were the best of friends for 17 years. It was a simpler time: idealistic, adventurous – even otherworldly.

This true story takes us from Canada to Mexico and throughout the US on a free-spirited and wonderful journey. It’s mostly about Claude, with me as his trusty sidekick.

Chasing Two Tails

Non-Fiction

At the time I started Chasing Two Tails, I wasn’t sure if I was going to live or die. I wanted to leave behind some record of the wayward path I had followed. Perhaps as a work of art, my path would make sense to those I love.

It introduces a real and fictional character, River Coyote, a trickster spirit, who goads me into many adventures creating some havoc along the beginnings of my spiritual quest.

On the journey, we’ll meet some real-life mentors like Bob, the wily River Rat, Happy Face, the Tasmanian Whole Brain Practitioner, Medicine George, a Yaqui Medicine man, and Swami Steve, a keen expert of calm and ghostbuster on the side.

There are meaningful life lessons to be gained, yet the spirit of the story is one of humiliating discoveries, mistakes, and realizations. It is never an ego-driven quest unless of course the chest-pounding is followed by a lightning strike to the ballsack or something as equally charming.

Like most trickster tales, the tail chased and bitten is the bloody moment of realization that the tail was my own.

I’ve racked up a lot of miles and experiences. My jobs have spanned from Safeway floor cleaner, white water river guide, ski instructor, NBA cameraman, film loader, director, editor, teacher, business owner, custom golf club maker, grip, grunt, a driver for celebrities, projectionist, painter, sprinkler installer to a wagon pulling zucchini salesman. My mother once said she’s never seen anyone reinvent themselves more than I have.

I love writing. It isn’t a new idea to me. I think it was fueled early on when my high school English teacher, Granny Davidson challenged me with this: “What do you want to do Scott?” I told her I was going to be an engineer. She replied “That’s great because you’re writing stinks!” hahaha. I thought about that every time I had to write a paper and beyond.

Even at University, my curiosity outweighed a sensible path. I studied engineering, computer science, drama, political science, and Asian studies before finally settling on film production at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

“Nothing I’ve done in my life makes sense unless I become a writer.”

Relax or Die

Following a brutal work injury and morally corrupt legal case, I escaped to Thailand with no idea if I would live or die.

Years earlier, I had worked as a director covering a series of Martial Arts experts. I remember the most impressive of all the masters was a 115 lb. man, Master Arthur Lee, a Thai Chi and Kung Fu master. Unfortunately, he had passed away, but his son, Harlan Lee remembered me from the video series and recommended I seek out Master Supol, a Tai Chi Master and Buddhist monk, in Thailand.

I watched Master Supol on YouTube and was intrigued by his lightness of being and purity of nature. After a year of emails, during my medical and legal nightmare, I finally managed to escape the US and arrange to meet up with him at a monastery in Thailand.

At the time I had extremely high blood pressure, was frequently fainting from pain, and had a tough time getting around. Master Supol’s teachings changed the way I thought and went about my daily life. Westerners continually add more and more tension to their lives with hardly any ability to naturally experience true relaxation.

In Relax or Die, I share my adventures through my healings with techniques that could save your life or someone dear to you.

Burn your Tipi

Burn Your Tipi is a screenplay I wrote and pitched to Woody Harrelson at a cast party in San Francisco after a play, “The Late Henry Moss,” he was in.

I drove to San Francisco without a ticket to the play with the sole intention to meet Woody Harrelson. It was a small miracle that I met one of the patrons to the theater, who not only gave me a ticket to the play but also invited me to the cast party after. I met Woody, his wife, the other cast members, Sean Penn, Nick Nolte, and Cheech Marin as well as the writer, Sam Shepard.

Burn Your Tipi is about a father and son at odds over the future of the family’s petroleum company. Exiled to spend the summer with his grandfather, Jake discovers the company’s beginnings of growing Hemp for the US government.

It is wrought with deception,  corruption, hippies, FBI agents, Native Americans, corporate executives, and three generations of Hempinsteads, who come together in a defining moment that could change the course of history.

This is a finished screenplay that I want to further develop into an adventure novel.

SOS Sex & Sensuality

Swami Steve is a master of meditation and calm. We met up for a series of guided teachings, which transformed the way I interacted with people – especially women.

The story will follow the evolution of my many mishaps and fumbling dealings with women. Swami Steve’s teachings had a profound effect on all of my relationships. However, it has taken years and years and quite a few mistakes to use the techniques effectively without karmic remorse.

Swami Steve is a normal guy with some incredible skills. The second you think of him as a divine master, he’ll reach for a snubbed out cigarette in a commercial ashtray and spark it up. He’s one of the calmest people I’ve ever met and is always up for a good laugh.

On a serious note, I believe some of the lessons covered can help with an assortment of sexual problems like premature ejaculation, erectile dysfunction, the ability to meet people, and even develop keen insights on what’s going on with them on a kinaesthetic or spiritual level.

Spirituality is a feeling, not a thought.

Dark Avenger

a Dark Novel

Dark Avenger was my outlet for dealing with an incredibly difficult work injury I had 10 years ago when working as an NBA cameraman.

Dark Avenger is a modern superhero who has an actual death experience. After the doctors rule him dead, he wakes up with an unnerving ability to become animated by vengeful ghost spirits, who are all on a mission to wreak havoc on the industrial machines that killed them.

It’s not exactly a match made in heaven, but it is hellaciously fun to even a score. Revenge is dark and brutal, but could it become something equally horrifying like change for the betterment of the world?

We’ll find out if some mischievous ghosts can scare some sense into those that caused the hurting in this paranormal tale.

Dark Avenger is a finished screenplay, however, I’d like to develop the story further into an even darker, yet slightly more hopeful novel.
